When we hear the word Botox , many of us think, “It’s not for me”—most likely due to the stigma surrounding it. But what exactly is Botox, and how does it work?
What is Botox?
Botox, short for Botulinum toxin , is a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum . In medical and cosmetic contexts, Botox refers to a purified and diluted form of this toxin, used in small doses for therapeutic and aesthetic purposes.
In weaker doses, botulinum toxin is used to reduce facial wrinkles. After injection into the muscle, the injected muscle starts to relax—and this is where the magic happens.
How Does Botox Work?
The relaxation of the muscle softens wrinkles and eventually makes them disappear. Botox treatments can be used to correct lines, creases, and wrinkling all over the face, chin, neck, and underarms for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

Testimonial
“This is my experience with Botox. I started working in the aesthetics clinic and didn’t know much about what Botox is or its benefits, let alone how it works. I sat down with the registered nurse of 10 years, and she walked me through what Botox is and how it helps. She reassured me it relaxes the muscles in the wrinkle area. She also reassured me I would see results in 3–4 days and full effects in 2 weeks. It has been 4 weeks, and I am one happy customer. So, what’s holding you back from trying Botox? You can’t be as skeptical as I was.” – TSB
